The Silent Death: Taking down Mamushi Brothers
How I Took Down the Mamushi Brothers (Ghost of Tsushima) — Stealth Guide & Video Walkthrough
If you’ve been following my channel, you already know I uploaded a video showing the full run — but here’s a written breakdown you can read before (or after) watching. This guide focuses on stealth tactics, loadout choices, and the step‑by‑step approach I used to silently eliminate the Mamushi Brothers and escape without raising a full alarm.
Quick overview
The Mamushi Brothers are a tight pair of heavily guarded targets in Ghost of Tsushima. Because they work together and patrol close to each other, a direct fight can quickly escalate. The safest, most satisfying method is to separate them, use assassination moves, and control the engagement with patience and positioning.
Preparation: gear, tools, and stance
- Armor & charm: choose armor that boosts stealth, resolve, or melee stealth damage. Equipping a charm that increases assassination damage or reduces detection helps.
- Tools: bring Smoke Bombs to break line of sight, Kunai to interrupt groups, and Ghost Weapons (like the Blowgun or Ghost Stance if available) for quick neutralization.
- Stance & posture: the Ghost playstyle (focus on stealth tools and assassination) makes this encounter easier. Make sure your grappling hook and resolve are ready — you may need to heal or perform a Smoke Bomb escape.
- Save: create a manual save or checkpoint near the area before you start the infiltration.
Approach & reconnaissance
- Watch patrols for a few full loops. Note where each brother stands and where their sentries sleep or gather.
- Use the Guiding Wind or tall grass to reach a blind spot; high ground or fences give you vision without exposing yourself.
- Identify choke points and structures you can use to separate the brothers (barns, walls, or roof edges are ideal).
Step‑by‑step assassination plan
- Get into position near the brother who has fewer nearby guards. Don’t rush—let the patrols pass.
- Perform a silent takedown on the first brother while he’s isolated (behind a building, facing away, or while distracted). If an immediate takedown isn’t safe, lure him with a well‑timed arrow or a small noise.
- Immediately move to concealment (tall grass, behind a rock) and wait for the second brother’s patrol cycle to bring him into a vulnerable spot. If he sees the body, throw a Smoke Bomb to cover your movement.
- Use a second assassination or approach from behind to finish the second brother. If they are close together and you can chain a clean double‑assassination from a single vantage point, take it — otherwise, isolate them first.
- After both are down, loot bodies quickly and plan your exit. Avoid lingering; reinforcements may arrive.
Dealing with setbacks
- If you’re spotted, use Smoke Bombs and the environment to disappear, then pick off enemies one at a time.
- If a fight breaks out, pull enemies into narrow corridors or doorways to limit flanking. Grapple to high ground and snipe with a bow if needed.
- Use resolve and kits only when necessary — stealth is faster and preserves resources.
Extra tips & tricks
- Time of day and wind don’t change detection but they affect visibility for you—dawn/dusk can help mask movement in shadows.
- Perform a practice run just to map patrol routes before attempting the assassination.
- If you want a cleaner cinematic for your video, try to execute both kills within 30 seconds of each other and use slow‑motion or cinematic camera options while recording.
Rewards and satisfaction
Silently removing the Mamushi Brothers yields XP, loot, and the satisfaction of a flawless stealth run. It’s also a great way to test your ghost build and improve timing, patience, and map reading. If you prefer, you can always turn it into a loud brawl—but where’s the fun in that?
